Anita Townsley

With 47 years of experience in education, I have had the privilege of helping young children learn, grow, and discover their strengths. As an elementary school counselor serving students ages 4–9, I am passionate about supporting each child’s academic success, career awareness, and social-emotional well-being while helping them build the confidence and skills they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

I believe every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and connected at school. By building positive relationships with students, families, teachers, and community partners, I strive to create a supportive environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed. My counseling program is guided by data-informed decision making to identify student needs, provide meaningful interventions, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.

I hold a degree in elementary education from Central College with an emphasis in early childhood and a reading specialty, and a master’s degree in professional studies with a school counseling emphasis from Iowa State University. ISCA named me Elementary School Counselor of the Year in 2021 and honored me with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025.

Throughout my career, I have learned that the most meaningful moments often come from a kind word, a listening ear, or helping a child believe in themselves. Those moments continue to inspire my work every day. Through compassion, collaboration, flexibility, and a student-centered approach, I remain committed to empowering students to become resilient, responsible, and confident learners who are prepared for lifelong success.
